I read an article the other day that talked about how we spend our lives collecting labels that define us.  So here is a list of some of the labels I have collected over the last four decades or so:

  • mother and daughter (and step mother)
  • wife and ex-wife
  • friend (and probably enemy)
  • caregiver and sometimes care receiver (fibromyalgia sucks!)
  • recovering alcoholic
  • Direct sales junkie
  • singer (karaoke queen)
  • photographer and artist
  • writer
  • survivor

Not a sister, although I have a best friend for the last 37 years or so that may be willing to argue the point.  Also not technically an aunt, but thankfully get to act as one sometimes.

There is no one label that defines me, although its taken me a long time to figure that out.  Even the list above only gives you the tiniest glimpse into who and what I am, but it’s a start.
